Painting by Faith — The Inner Landscape
George Inness evolved from the crisp, analytical landscapes of the Hudson River School to a deeply spiritual, tonal approach to painting. Influenced by Swedenborgian philosophy, he sought to fuse the material world with the spiritual one.
Inness argued that physical sight was imperfect and changing, while spiritual vision was eternal. His luminous canvases blur the lines between the physical land and emotional revelation. A true master of the American landscape, he believed that the true purpose of art was not to instruct or impress, but to awaken an emotion.

"In response to the spiritual weight Inness found in the land, my work seeks the quiet majesty locked within ancient stone and natural decay."
